Day 2

After a big breakfast and two cups of coffee, I left the hotel in Gevrey-Chambertin about 9:10 and hiked (~0.9 mile) back to the outskirts of town, where I left the trail yesterday. There, about 9:40 I resumed the trail and headed south. At 11:40, I reached Morey-St. Denis and where took a 15-minute break. I got a couple photos before resuming the Chemin des Grands Crus south through Chambolle-Musigny and Vosne-Romanée.

Upon my arrival in Nuits-St. Georges, I gulped down two draft (demi-pression) beers (that makes a litre) at a local pub before heading to nearby hostellerie. Full sun today and the temperature warmer. Hiked about 9.3 miles on the trail today, plus the additional mile needed to get from hotel in Gevrey-Chambertin back to trailhead. Spoke with field workers today and one of them said "Tres belle", meaning it's a beautiful day. I also saw a man cultivating between the rows of grapes with a Belgian horse. Talk about tradition! I was particularly fascinated by "Eau Pam" shut-off valves that I saw while entering town. Although my arms were a little sunburned, I was pleased that my body was holding up with the weight of the backpack and considering the distance traveled during a "real" day of hiking.

My room at the Hostellerie St. Vincent, shown below, has mini-fridge. I plan to chill my Camelback (water bottle) in the little refrigerator in anticipation of tomorrow's expected heat. I did my laundry in the bathtub and draped it on the window sill to dry. And my room has a king-size bed. I asked the desk clerk to request a taxi for tomorrow morning. It is supposed to arrive between 8:30 to 9 a.m. and will take me to village of Arcenant (8 miles west of Nuits-St Georges).

There was computer available for use at the hostellerie, so I sent email home and checked the text messages that were being uploaded to my blog. Before getting on the computer, I made reservation for dinner tonight downstairs at the L'Alambic restaurant at 7:00 (1900 hrs). Had the filet mignon: 27 euro plus 8 for dessert and 8 more for wine. Total bill came 49 euro. Another really good meal for a hiker. So far, so good. I am eating and moving well.

After dinner, I went outside and looked around the Nuits-St. Georges. The following photo pretty well sums up where I am: midway between Dijon and Beaune.
